ACON - UPC (Unit Power Controller)


The ACON - UPC device is used to control the 120 VAC power to a machine that is plugged into its NEMA 5-15R power outlet(s).  The power to the outlets is controlled by the internal processor using a combination of rules contained in its local memory or communications with other ACON devices or the RACON Server.  The ACON - UPC may also be equipped with an RFID card reader. 

The ACON - UPC is designed to withstand the environment commonly encountered in a machine shop or other industrial setting. 

Outdoor installations:

Outdoor operations are not recommended without providing protection from the elements.

NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS:

Networking allow communications between all nodes on the network.   This includes other ACON devices as well as RACON Server(s). A DHCP request for an IP address assignment from the local DHCP server will be made.  The DHCP server must assign an IP address prior to the commencement of communications.

Wired Ethernet:

The ACON - UPC as standard equipment has an Ethernet 10/100 BaseT (RJ45) Ethernet port that uses standard TCP/IP.  

Wireless Ethernet:

An optional USB WIFI communications adapter may be installed to provide WIFI network operations.  NOTE: Wireless communications in a machine shop environment may not be reliable. High current devices such as welders and other RF producing machines may interfere with WIFI signals.

RFID Operations:

When the optional RFID card reader is installed, an operator may request the initiation of the activation sequence by inserting an RFID card in to the RFID reader slot.

The RFID card must remain in the RFID card reader slot for the duration of the controlled resource operations.

An operator may request the initiation of the deactivation sequence by removing the RFID card from the RFID reader slot.

Activation Sequence Request:

The ACON - UPC will read the RFID card when it is inserted into the reader slot. This is interpreted as an activation sequence request.  It will then attempt to determine how the request will be acted on. 

The activation sequence will begin if the user, identified by the RFID card, is authorized to use the controlled resource.  The following must all be true for the activation sequence to start:
NETWORKED UNITS:
1. Unit be ON and operational.
2. Connected to the network.
3. Received an IP address from DHCP Server
4. Register with RACON (automatic at power up).
a) Device must have been enrolled with RACON.
5. Request authorization from RACON.
a) User must have been enrolled with RACON
6. RACON responds with ACK

After the activation sequence starts, it will not be interrupted. A request to start the deactivation sequence will not be acted on until the activation sequence is complete.

Deactivation Sequence Request;

Removing the RFID card from the reader slot requests the initiation of the deactivation sequence.

If the card is removed while the activation sequence is in progress, the activation sequence will continue. 

SEQUENCE OPERATIONS:

A sequence operation defines a series of actions and conditions that are required to be completed.  Each action and condition with its associated temporal requirements must be satisfied for the completion of the activation sequence.  Failure of any part of the activation sequence specifies the entry point in the deactivation sequence. 




 

About Unit Power Controllers: 


In almost any setting some equipment is required have limited access and also requires support equipment for proper operation.  Each ACON - UPC provides functionality for requirements like what is displayed below.

UPC Models Include:
 
UPC - 1 : Controls one AC power circuit and has two NEMA 5-15R power outlets identified as 01, and 02 with power controlled at the same time.

UPC - 2 : Controls two AC power circuits and has  two NEMA 5-15R power outlets identified as 01, and 02 with power controlled separately.

UPC - 3 : Controls four AC power circuits and has three NEMA 5-15R power outlets identified as 01, 02, 03, and 04. Outlets 03 and 04 are on the same circuit, however power for each is controlled separately.

UPC - 4 : Controls four AC power circuits and has four NEMA 5-15R power outlets identified as 01, 02, 03, 04. Power for each is controlled separately.

UPC - Micro : Controls one AC power circuit of 10 amps or fewer.

A single circuit UPC system:
